We spoke with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken after the first day of BLAST Pro Series Copenh 。

We spoke with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken after the first day of BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen, and heard his thoughts on Liquid's slump, their matches in Denmark, and the state of the SG 553.

Shortly before the event, Liquid were overtaken by fnatic in the world rankings, dropping to fourth place for the first time since August 2018. Heading into BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen, the North American side was still highly favored, being the second-highest-rated squad at the event.

Twistzz says he was forced to pick up the SG 553 after the gun rose in popularity

Following their two matches on the first day of BLAST Pro Series, a 16-14 loss to Natus Vincere and a 16-4 win over Cloud9, Twistzz discussed the team's drop in form, the disappointing DreamHack Masters Malmö campaign, and why he only now decided to pick up the SG 553.

Coming into this event, you dropped out of the top three in the world for the first time in a year or so, since back when you had TACO in the team. Do you feel like this is a realistic standing?

Due to our travel schedule this year I felt like it was inevitable that eventually, we would fall into this slump we wouldn't know how to get out. Unfortunately, it happened after the break and I wasn't expecting it to happen after the break, I thought it was going to be later on in the year. But it happened, and basically placing last at DreamHack Malmö, it was inevitable in my mind that a result like this would eventually happen for a good team like us. We dropped out of Beijing so we had more time to practice in a month and so far we've had lots of time to practice, and I think it has been good. We should've won vs. Na`Vi in my opinion.

I'll just touch on Malmö because of that Grayhound loss, especially after that 12-3 lead on the T side of Mirage. How did that happen and how did you deal with that loss after it?

I think we all agreed that our emotions at that event and our environment as a team... those results were going to be expected with how we were feeling. Honestly, they played really well and we just played average, not up to our usual level, and we lost because of it. I think dropping out might've released some pressure, just losing in group stage, but I'm not entirely sure. I kind of forgot how it went after because there was a bunch of drama, since right after we lost to Grayhound we had a team talk and then someone decides to post some fake news about NAF getting cut...

In the end, did the fake news help you bring the team back together in a way?

No, we just kinda laughed it off, but I felt really bad for NAF because he, unfortunately, saw it at 3 AM, that's not a very good time to see news like that. He obviously knew he was in no position to get cut, none of us are really.

Touching on the Na`Vi game, obviously you have a good record against them, it was a BO1 this time and in the end you kind of lost to electronic who had an amazing game. How did it look from your perspective, letting it slip in the end?

We made so many small mistakes, our communication was a little bit rough, I guess, we weren't communicating all the little thing like we usually do and it caused people to die in certain positions and I feel like we lost rounds we shouldn't have lost because of it, we lost a 5v3 and then we lost a 4v2 that they were half-bought on. And we lost because of comms, and also electronic played a really good game. I felt like we were only playing versus one player really, I never felt like there was that much of a presence from other players in the team.

After that you played the Cloud9 game which you played pretty well individually, the whole team did actually. Is it a bit of a relief to get that win to pick it up and at least go 1-1 in the end?

Not really, we were expecting a 2-0 for the day and our small mistakes cost us the game versus Na`Vi, we were in the lead for most of the game and we just fell short. But tomorrow is hard for us and 16-4ing a team is always good.

Lastly, there has been a lot of talk about the Krieg, you started picking it up kind of recently. What are your thoughts on the weapon and why didn't you use it before, because the accuracy seems to suit your style?

I actually thought it was going to get nerfed way earlier, but then I saw it going on and... I was ok not using it before cause other players weren't really using the Krieg so I could use the AK and M4 normally. As almost every player is using the Krieg now, I'm kind of forced to do it as well. Because there are spots where if you have the Krieg, you just won't lose, you just can't lose the duel when you have the Krieg.

I think dupreeh made a statement here saying it is the most overpowered gun in CS, and besides the Tec-9 years back, this is definitely the most overpowered gun in CS. The spray pattern is, believe it or not, easier than the AK's because all you need to do is drag down and left really hard and you are probably just going to headshot them, it is that easy. (laughs)
